Russetts Living Space, Kent

A newly renovated domestic property; this large living room was part of an open plan space that fed into the kitchen. With multiple uses, including a children’s play area, entertainment, relaxation and a music room, the noise environment in the space was always going to be an issue for the owners.

With little/no natural diffusion and absorption in the space, noise from playing children, musical equipment and general activity was bouncing around the open living space; disrupting its functionality as a multi-purpose room.

We used our 50mm track system, the largest available, leaving more room for acoustic insulation to be used, optimising the acoustic capabilities of the solution. With noise reverberating around the large room, and walls at significant distances apart, covering one wall with absorptive material meant one whole reflective surface was eliminated from the room, making it difficult for noise to bounce off adjacent surfaces.

The installation reduced the reverberation time of the room from over 2 seconds, to 0.5 seconds.

Acoustic additions often complement commercial properties and can add an interesting element. For domestic properties, however, the average acoustic installation involving sticking a series of carton-egg like panels onto a few walls in your home can be seriously ugly. They can also look frightfully out of place.

This project shows how our Fabric Wall solution call create warmth in a living space, add a textural element and of course, fix acoustic issues.

One of the benefits of our fabric acoustic solution is that any services used on walls, such as radiators and power outlets are able to be worked around:

The owners habe been thrilled with the installation, remarking on the improvement of sound in the room, the way it has blended visually into the space and the warmth it has added to their living space.
